Welcome to the Neighborhood
Tucked away, just south of the main city of Chiang Mai. Fetching
a whooping $75 a month for a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom duplex, complete with
hot water and urinal. Just off a main thru fair, that's just off
a slightly more busy street thats of an even slightly more busy
blvd. Among all he thai people we got ourselves an Englishman, a
German, an Italian, and now a second American. Apparently the
Itailian guy is insane. That's the manager's place on the right
and the original houses on the left. We're the 2nd house down the
middle.
Our home for the next 8 months.
The view from our home for the next 8 months.
Sitting room.
This is the most comfortable freaking chair. Seats two, and even
reclines back!
Left over xmas decoration from the last tenents and some fresh flowers.
Plenty of games for entertaining.
Bedroom.
Second bedroom. Currently doubling as a pantry / closet.
Standard bathroom, with on demand electric water heater, and of course
a home urinal!? Don't worry there's a real toilet to the left
there too. It even flushes, no need to keep a large bucket of
water near by!!
Our trusty utiliy room and kitchen. Or as Sow says, chicken.
We weren't in for more than a few hours before we'd been adopted by one
of the landlord's dogs.
He likes to sleep on our porch all day and night. He only seems
to leave when it's not shaded.
The place even comes complete with a neighborhood spirit house,
to make offering to the local ghosts to keep them appeased.
Our place at night. Can't turn that porch light on to early after
sunset or we get a swarm of bugs.
Found that one out the hard way.
Lucky gecko on our window. Lucky for him we turned the porch
light on early the first night.
Shopping for Furniture
Within minutes of signing the lease and paying about a days salary, the
landlord took us to Lamphun, a nearby city, to buy inexpensive
furniture. It's where they make all the stuff they sell in Chiang
Mai, so it's about half the price.
Mmmmm'mmmm... a nice refreshing bag of orange fanta!
And a bag of pineapple shake.
Man, that was tiring. Better head out and get a bite to eat...
